Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker today joined with officials of the non-profit New Community Corporation, RPM Development and the State of New Jersey to break ground on Roseville Commons, a $14 million, mixed used affordable housing venture that will feature rooftop solar panels and other "green" technology throughout its design.
"This project should really help give new life to the Orange Street corridor," said Monsignor William J. Linder, founder and CEO of New Community Corporation, which was founded 41 years ago shortly after the Newark riots to help improve the quality of life for city residents to reflect individual God-given dignity and personal achievement.
The five-story building, to be located at 553-567 Orange Street in the heart of the Roseville Community Revitalization Area, will convert an underutilized urban site into high quality affordable housing for low and very low income families and individuals, including special needs populations such as homeless veterans and the visually impaired.
